Sunday - I slept until almost 1 and by that time, the Zysmans were already at their weekend house. So I hung around the house for the afternoon, wrote a blog, and lounged. Then Sunday night I went to see a public Tango performance at one of the parks next to the river. It was very authentic as they had numerous musicians performing different instruments including keyboard, drums, harmonica, guitar, accordion, etc. During the songs, experienced Tango dancers were welcome to use the dance floor directly in front of the stage. There were probably 400-500 people there watching, and the weather was extremely pleasant so people brought picnics, their dogs, chairs, etc. It was quite nice. With the music still in the background, I went to eat with another one of the language school students (from North Carolina) at Parrilla Argentina on their front porch. A high class Italian meal for 150 pesos (~12 USD).
Then I went to a different part of town to meet up with another Ex-pat, Brendan, who has lived in Rosario for 6 months with his girlfriend, who is a native. The GF's friends wanted to meet some more 'yankees' so I told him I was definitely in for that (even though I am a Rangers fan, lolz, jokez). At the bar/restaurant, Espiria, there was a live cover band playing some very popular Argentinian music as everyone was singing along, and when that ended, we went to the back outdoor area and enjoyed the 12am-2am Happy Hour. I am kicking myself for not taking pictures, but please forgive me, I was focused on other things.
Monday - Very tired, but today was babysit day as Gaby and Romi took a 1 day/night trip to a rock festival near Cordoba to get away for a short while. So after class, Emmi (the maid) and I watched Lumi and Mirko and hung at the house all day. We basically wasted time until 9:15pm when grandpa came (even though he was supposed to be there between 7-8) to pick up the kids for the night. Then, I went to meet up with some of the language school students to celebrate Carnival. Monday and Tuesday this week are actually holidays, and to celebrate this four day weekend, there were a few streets blocked off with bands playing and beverages/food being sold. It was an authentic blast as the street was packed with people grooving to the music and chatting. Don't worry, I was home before 3, didn't stay out too late.
It is currently Tuesday afternoon, but the wifi at the house is down, and the parents aren't home yet. So even though I am typing this now, I am going to have to post it later. I am about to go do a little shopping (shoutout MB) and hopefully get a mini work out in before Tuesday soccer at 9pm. And by the end of futbol, it'll only be like 10:15 so who knows what will go on after that, it is still carnival, ya know.
