During my last week in Rosario, I was doing some normal strolling around the city like I had done many times. I went to a park by the river, worked on some homework, stopped by the historical monument, took some pictures, and enjoyed the weather. However, on this rather hot day, I happened to forget my water bottle. So, I figured, bueno, I'll head to the shopping strip on Cordoba which was rather close, stroll around some more, and cool off. I walked around a bit, explored the inside shopping mall option and came across a little ice cream/fruit drink stand. Even though the product looked great, I convinced myself that I didn't need to spend the money on more sugar that probably wouldn't fix my thirst and moved on with my stroll. As my body temperature continued to rise and I was starting to wear down, I began looking for a place to relax in the shade with a refreshing beverage. But I really couldn't find anything ideal, and the heat and frustration continued to compound. I contemplated just taking the bus and heading home, but then I saw that bus #22 drive away and knew it would be another while before the next one came. Finally realizing that I was stressing myself out too much and about to hit the bottom, I decided to head back to the original ice cream stand and give it a go. I picked the strawberry frozen drink for 13 pesos (about $1 USD), and with the first sip I knew it was the right choice. Careful not to get a brainfreeze, I thoroughly enjoyed the drink and quickly found a table to relax in the shade. I set my bag down, got out a book, and did not put the drink down because it was just absolutely hitting the spot on this oven-like day. I put my feet up, started to read a little, took a large sip from the strawberry drink and realized "ahhhhh I have found my happy place and it could not feel bett...." PLOP. I heard/felt something drop into my drink and peeked down to see some white floating in the red. I was in disbelief. I looked up and sure enough there was a bird perched on a branch situated perfectly to ruin my happy place. This was a joke. I had just spent hours in a frustrated overheated phase, and once I finally escaped, a bird sent me right back to that world. I couldn't comprehend how to feel. But, the truth is, I was almost done with my strawberry drink sent from heaven, and bus #22 was about to pull up, and the lady was about to come by and tell me I wasn't allowed to sit at that table. And it was hard to complain because I was on my own time, not working, no assignments, traveling in a foreign country. But I was a little low, and I found my happy place. And I learned that no matter the situation, when you find your happy place, no matter how large or small, make sure to enjoy it and remember it, because you never know when a little birdie will come along and drop the gift of reality right into your cup of happiness.
